Construction follows a set of pre-made drawings. These drawings guide the construction process in a systematic and definite way. For the multiple disciplines involved, there are drawing sets generated individually. Each of these sets has a general layout, plans, elevations and sectional drawings along with reports. The process leading to these final drawings is a long and thorough one. From initial deigning to the complete detailing of each systems and their coordination, they are exhaustively and carefully carried out to reach the final drawings set used for construction. For every discipline, a specialized team is delegated. Structural shop drawing services are hired to avail drawings for the structural elements of the building. The team comprises structural engineers, modellers and drafters. They execute the detailing of the structural components. These are hand rails, stairs, bars, trusses, etc. As these form the structure of any building, accuracy in them bears all the more significance. Thus, the drawings for their fabrication and installation need to be up to the mark.
These days all pre-construction tasks are facilitated by BIM – Building Information Modelling technology. Structural Steel detailing is also performed on BIM supported tools. With every system modelled and worked on BIM enabled tools, interoperability can be easily fulfilled. It enables better coordination and thereby more accurate outputs, considering the number of disciplines involved. Tekla is the one of the preferred software applications for this task. The conventional 2D means have been completely replaced.
When we are dealing with the structural shop drawing services, we chiefly expect two drawings sets. One of these is the fabrication drawings. We also know them as shop drawings set. These drawings facilitate the fabrication of the components. They furnish details to support fabrication. The dimensions are specified along with materials as well as process related information. The drawings once ready are sent to the fabrication shop where the components are accordingly fabricated. Next we have the drawings that facilitate installation of the components. These are addressed as the erection drawings. They enable the workers on site to install the components as the structure is formed. The set covers drawings specifying where the parts are placed with respect to each other. And the way they are to be connected.
Skill and experience are keys to developing these drawings. Given the weight that these drawings bear in the construction, any short comings cannot be accepted. Read MoreStructural Shop Drawing Services – Important Pre- Construction Practice
